My parents are looking to buy a HD video camera for no more than $1200 dollars. They'd like something not too bulky or heavy that has good low light capabilities for recording local shows as well as family functions and stuff. They have a 50" Sony plasma tv so theyd like something that can take advantage of it. Thanks

There aren't any options really. Your only choice is Sony HDR-HC3. It's small, around the price range. Low light capabilities is always not the greatest on "consumer" based stuff because lens and sensor can't deal with it.

What about the $1500 price range? Does that open up any more options?

Not really. There is just no market for this now. Most of the HD cameras have been more prosumerish to get the word out on the street. The HC3 is the 1st consumer camera by Sony in the HD camcorder market. The other HD cameras by Sony and other manufacturers are really too large IMO and cost much more than this.
