(Side note--I also own LCD-2s and Denon 5000s I was afraid that the 800s were going to be terribly bass-lite because of all the posts I've read on the subject, but these 800s are sounding mighty fine on my first day listening with them.)

That's because they're not bass lite.

The HD800 produce the overtones of the bass notesof  piano in Michael Kaeshammer's track Swanee River better than any of my other phones.
It is just like I was standing behind him when he was playing.
