hi

I know this is an annoying question but my country's tax policy is more annoying

due to the place where I live
hd 800 costs $1000
lcd2 costs $1400
I like deep and Tight bass and I also Hate harsh headphones (I know hd 800 is not harsh but i think i'ts too bright for me)
also I like rock - badly recorded music
I'm totally confused :frowning2:

I've heard dt880 and I thought it was too bright and annoyingly analytical.

about amp - don't have - planning to match it with the headphones

If I was in your scenario, it would be no question.  HD800 all the way.

However if you thought the DT880 was too bright and annoyingly analytical, the HD800 will have the same complaints likely.  W/o a great amp and the anax mod the HD800 has a tendency to sound very analytical w/ peaky treble.

Also, 1400 for an LCD2 sounds ridiculous to me.  Look into the headphones for sale forum, you would probably be able to get a used, like new, LCD2, from a seller with great feedback for 800 + shipping.

I think you forget you'll have to pay additional shippingcosts, importfees and VAT. In Europe this is at least 25% additional costs. So it's normal US products are more expensive than let's say EU products. So if pricing only makes US products less interesting, it's too bad you won't overthink these products. Especially because EU isn't leading in develloping Head-fi gear. They develop good products , I don't say that.... but they biggest Headfi market is outside EU. And as said, let's keep our eyes open for these "unfortunately" more expensive products!

So what I'm saying is that also for higher pricing of  USD 1.400 (about Euro 1.050) LCD-2 is worth overthinking as a good headphone to have... Note: I'm not arguing sounddifference HD800 vs. LCD-2 :)

How the hell that the HD800 is only 1000 when the LCD2 is 1400? Weird...

I also don't know...

At this moment official salesprice of HD800 is Euro 1.195,= That's about USD 1.544,= incl. VAT. An exportprice (non-EU) of about USD 1.275,= I guess. But ofcourse than you have to pay your importfees and taxes again...

Please people, mark your location in your profile or atleast tell it. If you are in EU, use €uro, don't convert to dollars, that's just silly and confusing. And yes US people tend to forget the VAT..

"Street price" of EU HD800 should be no more than 950€. I paid that myself from a local computer store. And just a few days ago amazon.de had a seller with 939€ shipping all EU, but now it's removed.

here's the thing
I live in Bulgaria - which is a shameful country to live in

I'm not going to describe the corrupt customs in Bulgaria but these are the end results 1000 for lcd 2 + VAT + some kind of shipping, while the hd800 shop is 10 minutes with the underground and bought from the store like a bag of chips but for 1000 :)

and for the record I converted it in USD because it's the worldwide currency for electronics!!!!

by the way I was looking at Tyll's review of the momentums and I think it's the solution

however my ears are 36mm but are very stiff........

Well for the record, EU has as much population as the US.. Just saying it confuses people as you didn't imply where you live.

So are you saying that HD800 costs ~780€ ($1000) in your local shop (or Leva, you are not euro yet?). If it really is, it's a VERY good deal! Are you sure the price includes VAT? I'm sure head-fi'ers would order heaps from them..

I would say a lot depends on what you have as a system...

The HD800 are super-fussy about the gear further up the chain, and - if they don't like it, sound thin and anaemic...

What gear do you currently have? - that $400 (or whatever it is in Euro) saving on the HD800 might be more of a false economy than you'd realise if not system matched properly...

HD800, I prefer them even to LCD-3, they are also easier to drive. But it may sound overly bright with some setups. Buy with return policy to try on your equipment, give it few days for your ears to adopt.

Are you from EU?
I purchased my HD800 from this seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310262771673?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
919 EUR with free delivery, and no taxes if you're in EU
