A local audio shop in my area has the Stax Signature System II for sale for $2,399. So my question is since it would be around $2,000 for the HD 800's with decent amp, would it be a lot better to go electrostatic instead.

I would say, the rig around $2000 for Stax would be overall better than HD800.
 
But if you are the person like to use multiple headphones like me, the general amplifier would be more convenient.
