Yeah, you can get good ones from Brendan at Tubeworld. But they are about $600/pair.

I can confirm that the WA2 and HD800s are a brilliant match. I am totally rediscovering my HD800s (and T1s/LCD-2s for that matter) with my new Woo Amp.

How does the Woo WA2 compare with the Meier Concerto in terms of power to drive them? I have the Meier Symphony and love it, but am looking for more "presence" of sound with the HD800's.

The Concerto is a very good SS option with the HD800s. But I prefer both my MAD Ear+HD and WA2 with the HD800s. I find that the treble is softened to a very nice level that I can really enjoy these wonderful cans. Of the 3 desktop amps I own, I prefer the WA2 the most. Not huge, but enough to use it most often.

Hello All,

I am just starting to rekindle an old flame. After a short youthful fling with the PX100's, I kept company with a bunch of different Grado's.

Recently, I listened to the HD800's through an Apogee Duet's headphone jack, and I was hooked!

So now I have been listening with this combo for the past 4 days.  I like them so far, but I am starting to wonder
if I can significantly improve on the sound by adding an amp?

I was hoping that someone who has heard the Duet/ H800 combo and then added an amp, could give me a comparison of the changes that they heard with and without the amp in the chain.

Thanks.

I bought a new HD800 which will be here for my shootout I am doing with the HE6,LCD2 and the HD800 and will be able to tell everyone how well the CSP-2 Taboo Decware combo drives them and my impression of the HD800.

I am really enjoying the CSP-2 Decware with the HD800. My Taboo plays them well but I prefer the OTL and is a very nice match with the HD800/ I am appreciating more each day everything the HD800 does so well  an for classical music it is my can of choice . I also like jazz on these.

Glad you are enjoying them. They are phenomenal cans (even with the new orthos that have been more recently released). I can also say that the HD800s/OTL tube amps go very well together. My WA2 is a great match with them too.

I am at that. I will also say the Taboo handles them very well which Rob has trouble with the mini torri on high impedance cans the taboo has zero noise and drives them very well. Both sides work well but the SET is the CSP-2 and I slightly prefer the OTL with them

After your well written but glowing review of the HE6, do you think your mind is open to possibly crowning a different king?

Not sure what your post is getting at. I have said in the review that these are all top flight phones so what your point? I own the HD800.LVD2 and HE6 and I have stated cleary both planar are better IMO. What the king comment about as I also stated its all subjective. My review of both the T1 and LCD2 also were glowing and that is because that the way I heard the phones. But if you want me to say the king is the HD800 sorry in my system and to my ears the planar are better Hows that? in 35 years of listening to high end gear and some as high as 200K systems I have always called it like it is to me and they are my impressions. The HE6 is a glowing headphone and I called it like I heard it.

I also will say if as new headphone comes out that has the sound  stage of the HD800 with the bass and vocals of the LCD2 and the treble of the HE6 we would be talking about a new king. Until then they are all excellent headphones and will please people differently.

Frank I,
My comment was flippant and not deserving of a serious response.  I just asked because for me it is difficult to make comparison between the HE-6, HD800 and T1.  I am not musically trained, but I love music and have been trying.  If I listen to one of these headphones for an hour or more, at that moment it becomes my favorite.  Some thing seem obvious to me (IMO, with my setup, and with my ear canal shape).  The HE-6 is outstanding with jazz and most vocals, has the best instrument separation, heaviest, and prone to static electricity ear shocking.  The T-1 is my favorite with rock and TV, but has too much sibilance.  It is very comfortable and I can wear it all day.  The HD800 is the most comfortable, excellent with jazz and classical, has the best sound stage, and best instrument spacial placement.  The rest is more difficult for me, decay, frequency response, accurate instrument reproduction, distortion, etc.

Sorry I misunderstood the post. My apologies. I agree with your assement in this post. I have experienced similar to what you have with the cans. All big players but iMO the HE6 and LCD2 are better in transparency than my HD800 and the T1 I owned. The latter part is really easy if its musical and clearer the window becomes into hearing more of what an acoustic guitar sound like live. I listen for the sound of instruments as I would hear live in an acoustic setting. The planar are the most accurate in their sound quality of reproducing a live sound IMO. I do love the dynamics also. I also said they each have different parts of the spectrum that are better to each individual. I believe the perfect can would be ihe bass of the LCD2 and vocals the treble of the HE6 and soundstage of the HD800. That IMO would be a major headphone for the ages. Until then I consider the LCD2,HE6,HD800,T1 the best of the rest IMO.
