So, the two quick tl;dr
year or two ago i bought a package of broken porta pros(mostly cable), and after reselling most of them, still had a few drivers laying around.
Then there's next one, where i was modding my superlux HD-660, and unfortunately burned one of the drivers, so had to throw them into the shelf hell.
fast forward a few months, finished my engineer's thesis, and then there is suddenly too much free time.
Crazy idea incoming: combine the two above. hmm, why not?
Lets try.
After tearing the headphones to pieces, and pulling out hd660 driver from the ring my face started to smile slowly
You see that? their radius is pretty much the same.
OHMAGERD this is perfect!
a little bit of glue and we got it!
even the original grill fits well with new drivers. that was the easiest mod ever.
Sounds pretty legit too. A bit bass heavy, as expected of porta pro drivers, but the sound is still suprisingly balanced considering this is random driver put into random case. Only problem so far is high frequencies echoing too much from the back of the shell. Gotta find some nice piece of foam to dampen it.
