Well then mister you TAKE those cans out of the box and you LISTEN to them NOW!

I remember once looking at (drooling over) the HD 650 in the Music Direct catalog and then one day I cashed in some scrap copper and BAM! I ordered them at Guitar Center for around $300 total...they continue to be my #1 cans.

Yes - I have a pair waiting for me at home today as a matter of fact - undergoing an ultimate 600 vs 650 comparo on my own equiptment, with my own music, my cables, and see what is what. I will say the field is heavily tilted to the 600, but may the better can win.

I got rid of the HD600's some time ago... Didn't really like how bass shy they were.

I just got a pair of used HD650's a week ago, and I've been really enjoying them with my RSA Predator and RudiStor RPX-33. I don't think I'm about to go balanced any time soon, but I do like their crispy, open sound through my single-ended amps. It's a great compliment to my closed Edition 9's.

I strongly disagree. The 580/600/650 line is excellent. The problem is that people try to run them from portable amps and an iPod. Trouble is, you need to invest in or build a substantial amp to hear them at their full potential.

To the OP - congrats! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy mine!

Agreed. Give it some juice and the HD650 will leave the Goldring behind.

OP, Enjoy the new cans: they are truly great.

Congrats on the 'phones ...... Just like you say , you can really sense the potential of the HD650 's straight away. Very nice indeed paired with the DV332 (I believe it was designed with them very much in mind) . Enjoy !!

Bad news:
I'm hearing the Sennheiser veil, also I've noticed the bass is a bit flabby..
maybe burn in will help
At times the potential of these phones really shines through.

you need a lot of money worth of components to correct the these issues (it takes quite a bit to sway the 650 from its habits). The flab, bring everything forward, and the veil are corrected with amp/source/cabling/exciter Sound processor synergies.

If you want to avoid the blackhole that the 650's make in one's wallet, i suggest you try the HD600 driver swap. I think the 650 starts to sound a lot like a HD600 when you get close, while retaining advantages in smoothness/refinement beyond the 600. The Hd600 really isnt bad at all though. To many people it is worth it choose the 600 over the 650.

Congrats, enjoy your HD650. I'm enjoying mine immensely with my darkvoice 337 tube amp.

Strap on a silver or hybrid cable...really changes the small details for the better.

I am debating if I should try the RAL...the Mobius has treated me well though.
