Hi,

Which cans should I opt for? I currently own the HD-555 and have had the HD-515 before. I like the sound of the HD-555 cans a lot. Please leave your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

When I heard the 600 at my house on my system the 600 sounded very laid back compaired to the 595 120 ohm

Well I prefer 595 to 600 by a clear margin though I've only auditioned 600's for something like 15 minutes and 595 I owned before I got 650's.

I will answer your question with a question. Are you looking for something different, or are you looking to improve on what you are hearing? You say you really like the 555's. The 595's will improve on most things you are hearing, but it won't be dramatically different. The 600 will give you a more traditional Senn sound and will come across as more laid back than the 595's.

if you have a good amp, the HD600 will kick 595's ass in all aspects!!!!

The 600 scales better with higher-end gear IMO, but it definitely needs amplification of some sort to perform at a reasonable level, whereas the HD595 is just fine with lower-end amplification (in the 50 ohm version). Anyhow, the two have a different sound signature - the 600 is brighter but lusher, with a very natural tone, more laidback presentation, and a very coherent sound overall. The HD595 is a bit clearer and more detailed, and more forward, but it has less impact in the bass and less extension in the highs. It's also warmer, and has a slightly dry (some say grainy) sound. I prefer the 600 by a good margin, but out of lowly amplification I would probably prefer the 595.

By amplification, do you guys mean just for volume like those sub-$50 amps or quality ones that is beyond $200 bucks?

Hd595 and hd600 , deciding btw the two is really a matter of taste. Imho even with a good amp , the sound from these two will not be altered much. I think hd595 scales well too with better equipment. I don really think hd600 is superior except in vocal refinement. Hd595 has better sense of detail and is a better all rounder, at least it won't make rock music sleepy unlike hd600.

Quality sure helps, but inexpensive amps can drive the HD600 pretty well. Not sure about sub-$50, but definitely some sub-$100 amps mate pretty well with them (like the Go-Vibe with AD8620 opamp).

I had a recabled HD555 using silver based wire, a mod that opened up the top end and tightened the bass. I considered them to be mini-595's due to the mod. I then went to HD600's.

My impression is the HD600's win. They're simply better overall, and with a silver based cable and a forward source/amp they really aren't boring at all (the main complaint with Senn 580/600/650). For example, and EMU0404 with a custom silver breakout to a Gilmore Lite to a silver Senn cable. All of those components emphasize detail and treble and tighten the bass, so they match perfectly with the Senn to balance out the sound. I'd listen to rock all the time with the HD600's and they were great.

The thing I liked best about the 600's were the versatility. Senns are excellent for acoustic music, i.e. jazz, classical, vocal, etc. The sound was rich and very realistic. With processed music, i.e. electric guitar, techno, hip hop, etc. the sound was really detailed and clear. I eventually upped to the HD650's though since the 600's aren't very bassy cans, but other than the bass there's hardly any difference between the two.
