What one is the best price vs. performance?

Or should I go for a closed ear type...?

Will be amping them with the Asus xonar essence ST Amp output.

OK that is one smokin looking sound card.

Personally I prefer open ehadphones for their larger soundstage and air like qualities.

With a soundcard like that I stay in the HD6x series of headphones.

The HD595 is supposed to have a more forward midrange and not as deep a bass.

The HD600 is supposed to be the most balanced sounding of the 3.

The HD650 is supposed to be a darker sounding headphone that has more potential to have the infamous Sennheiser veil.

I think properly amped that all 3 will not really suffer from any veil though.

I own the HD600 and find it is very good across bass, midrange and treble. It has been worth every penny I spent so far.

Will the Asus amp be enough to drive the 600/650? I'm not so sure. The 600 sounds more balanced, but a silver recable on the 650 removes the veil.

Totally agreed on that part. The HD600 is a very good headphone for any price IMO, and that card should be able to give them a little juice. I've heard good things about that card, but I don't have room on my mobo to put one in....

These all leak sound, but not enough to wake someone up in another room.

I wear open phones in the same room as my wife and she doesn't notice all that much and certainly not when in another room. On the flip side with open phones you can hear when someone is talking to you which can be good or bad depending

Okay, getting down to the original question: 595 vs 600 vs 650, I've seen one reply for 600 and one reply for 580, which wasn't even on the list, but is such a great deal it ought to be included. Are there any other replies? Inquiring minds want to know.

I've personally owned both the 595 and 650. I think both were great buys. I do believe both deserve the relative price tags attached to them too.

I preferred the HD650's so much that when I got them, I stopped using the 595's and eventually sold them. However, for the price the HD595's go for, I still consider them a great buy. I had many happy listening sessions with them.

I found the HD595's to have a more forward presentation and a tad anaemic bass response. OTOH, the HD650's catered a lot better to my personal taste by bringing forth a smoother, less forward presentation with more bass. My tastes were far better dealt with through the HD650's.

HD580 can be compared to earbud ... in your head music with limited soundstage.
HD650 have fantastic 3D soundstage, laidback (outside your head). It's not at all the same level of performance.

HD650. Did not like the HD595 and the HD600 don't really go low (compared with DT880) and don't reach high.

I upgraded from the HD555 to the HD650 and haven't looked back. The presentation just blows me away.
