Hi, i wonder if a pair of HD 595 could be driven decently by a mp3 player like iriver T10, or ipod. Could a mp3-player as iriver/ipod be as good as a sound card like M-audio audiophile 2496 to drive these cans?

The low impedance of the 595s allow them to be driven by lots of equipment. Ipod and other mp3 players drive them just fine.

separate sound cards like the m-audio audiophile will of course drive headphones better than only an mp3 player like the ipod.

but the hd595 will be driven quite nicely with only an mp3 player

Yeah it will work fine, but I think the 595´s are more of a "home" can. Consider the portability issue of walking around with these rather big can... I might add it does not look very flattering.

People can laugh at me for wearing my 595s around. I don't care, I laugh at the people walking around with the Bose Triports.

Shure they have low impedance but the amount of air that has to be moved in the big cups make the soundvolume lower than say PortaPro, which lays right on the ear. T10 is in my opinion a little to weak to drive them well, if you don't like to listen to low volume only. iPod has to bad soundquality (5G is better than the old ones), flat and boring directly from headphone out, a relatively neutral HP like 595 does IMO sound worse than say PortaPro direktly frome iPods headphone-out. But you can buy a line-out cable and amp to use with iPod. With iriver you can only go by headphone out-Amp and thats not so good for SQ.

When i bought my hd-595 i went T10-E10-iHP120 and now im quite happy.

But sure if you don't like to much volume go for T10 it has great sound.

Allso consider HD-485, not the same soundstage and detail as 595 but much esier to drive and a good amount of bass.
