I had a well broken in pair of HD-570 Symphony Sennheiser phones that recently
kinda bit the dust... well the right ear driver stopped working, so I sent them out to Sennheiser to be serviced... what im wondering is... I really like the sound of my HD-570's, is the sound of the newer stuff like the HD-595 leaps and bounds ahead of the 570's? Or would I be spending money for no reason upgrading to something like an HD580 or 595?

I own both the 570s and the 580s, and I can tell you without reservation that the 580s absolutely blow away the 570s in every way in terms of sound quality, but the 570s are a little bit more comfortable (not that the 580s are anywhere near what I'd call uncomfortable). As for the 595s, I have no idea how they sound, but I'd imagine that they also blow away the 570s.

I'm not a big fan of the 570s. They were my first "good" headphone so when I first put them on and listened, they were great. Plus they were ultra comfortable. However, if you start listening to other high quality headphones (doesn't have to cost more $$ Grado SR-60 is good enough) you'd see that the 570s aren't all that great. Not much bass and the highs are kinda of shrill. The 580s wipe the floor with them so do the 600s obviously. I don't know anything about the 595 though. The 580s should be amped due to their impedance, but the relatively low impedance 570s (64 ohms) should be amped too. They are a real power hog.

Yeah, the 570s were the most power-hungry phone I've ever seen. The sound was shrill.
Get anything else and you'll be pleased. I'd say if you actually liked the 570s, the 555/595s would be right up your alley.

And, if you absolutely must have the feel of the 570, the 590 uses the same basic design, and also sounds far, far better than the 570 can ever manage. It's not that the 570 is a bad phone, but IMO for the price there are better options - and it's not really high-end, at least compared to Sennheiser's own higher-level models.

570s? I returned mine within 30 days. it might not be the design you guys are looking for but just get a px100. sounds way better than the 570 and cheap too. The 580s though are great phones (which I also own) if they are your cup of tea. 580s are a little tame though and cant live with just them alone. I have to have my rockier sounding phones
