When new they are'nt really comfortable, however you can improve on the comfort by streching the headphone band. Mine is really comfortable, after more than 2 years of use. However, the bad thing about it is that the pads are breaking off in pieces.

Yeah, but it's super flexy - dunno, guess it depends on the heatsink used.

Regarding comfyness - I use my HD497s about 4 hours a day and they're extremely comfortable with no problems. Comfort is a personal matter that you should resolve by trying stuff before you buy
