I took apart my 10 yr old HD 280s today to mod it and I was surprised to see that the driver it uses is the same as HD555/595. Or may be I think the plastic membrane part is the same as HD555/595 but with 64 ohm magnet.
Also the driver seems to be damaged it sounds fine though.
I wonder if HD650 drivers can be fitted in to HD280. They look about the same size(judging from looking at my HD600).
The driver's plastic part looks damaged on lower right corner. Does this driver need replacement? The phones play just fine and I don't know if sound has changed because I'm not using it since last 4 yrs, I disassembled the headphones and that's how I found this damage. I don't even know if they left factory like this.
