I just found a NOS Sennheiser HD598 (beige ones, not the black ones on Amazon) for 110 Euros.

Well, I already have the HD599's that I really enjoy. And from the rtings graphs, the 598 and 599 seem very identical in FR...

Does someone had/have both that can compare between then? Are they basically the same, so, having the HD599, buying the 598 would be a "waste" of money or are they worlds apart in terms of sound? Would an HD598 would be best one, a must headphone to get (better soundstage, etc.)?

I can't try them and return them, and I'm saving for an AKG K702 or 712 (trying to expand my collection), but these 598's popped in and made me think, but having the HD599 already I really don't know if buying the 598 would be any considerable "upgrade"...

Pretty sure the HD599’s are newer?

You got a great set in the 599. I have the HD600 and amp but the 599 have excellent separation, detail and soundstage just plugged into my iPad. I’d stick to them to you go right up... if you need to. :)

Thanks for the reply!

I really like the 599 I have, one of my favorite headphones from my modest collection.

Actually, I just found that the 598’s are “open box”, not shure what the store means with that and I just emailed them (it’s an online store).

but basically, do you think that having the 599’s it will be kind of “worthless” buying the 598’s (too similar, for instance)?

It means someone bought and returned them. Maybe had a set of 599’s as well haha.

If it were me, two from the same range would be a waste of money. Go for the 702’s to try that fabled huge soundstage. They are not expensive.

No, it makes no sense to get the 598s when you already have the 599s. They're not significantly different. You're better off saving your money to upgrade to a higher tier headphone in the future.
