I have a zu ash cable, one side is rca & the other is a little different, the central thing is needle thin, and there are two rings around it (forgot what you call it, and couldn't find it on googling)

my zhaolu dac does not have anything to accept the needle side, so will it be easy/danger-free for me to take of the rca spdif, and resolder a new one?

(i've never done diy before, and no one's offering to do this, or not for a reasonable price)

that's what it is, BNC digital coax on one end.

I don't want to switch the end because the guy I bought it off said it gives better quality if i use it in some mode that my sound card supports. Even if that's not true, I'd rather mess with the input on the dac because i don't want to dismantle the cable.

I need to change the input on the dac so that it accepts the BNC digital coax

Yes the plug is technically superior. However the superiority is in the design of the plug, not the quality. If you use an adapter you loose all the benefits the plug brings in the first place.
