Apple has Mac, MacDonalds is called Mac so I guess the guy from Apple thought, iMac sounds 'rather more interesting.'

Oh stop whining.. no one forced you to read this thread. Works both ways you know.

I'm curious, in what world is a dog, cat, ferret, chinchilla or the like considered to be either "gear" or a "gadget" ? Seeing as that's what Gear-Fi is for.

they all require a certain amount of gear in order to care for them properly. same as music.

I mentioned this a year or so ago. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f11/du...8/#post5550776 well before it got as bad as it has now. It's one of the reasons I don't visit here so much nowadays, along with the signal to noise ratio.

lest start a humorless-fi thread....so people with a chip on their shoulders can post their complaints.

That's your justification? Wow.

Its odd that people will write huge long reviews on headphones, amps etc. using such intricate and detailed language, yet have no issues with the mangling of one of the most fundamental words in the whole 'hi-fi" vocabulary.

If making thread titles is SO hard, without resorting to -FI on the end then fair enough, but it seems odd that in just about every other forum, people seem to manage it. You don't see HD800-FI in the headphones forum.

and as for the thread crapping, again, if you don't like it.. don't post in the tread. It's not like we're going into every thread and crapping in them, so at least have the decency to let those who do have something to say, say it. Heck If we mocked people with opposing views in every thread, it's be a pretty poor place to hang out.

No one's perfect, so let's all try and see past each others foibles, and let people express themselves. You can have your threads full of pictures of dogs, cats monkeys whatever, but don't complain if others have a thread about your threads. Just don't try and justify it as -FI (as in fidelity) if its just a pictures thread. Just call it "pictures of dogs" or something, you know, like umm accurate.

Not too much to ask is it?

That's all I'll say on this. Lets not make this personal either mmkay? That's not very cool.

I think this thread is pretty much done now.

this is the point - you are overreacting!

this is not a mangling of the language, nor a misunderstanding on the part of those who post the threads. IT IS A JOKE!

This reminds me of 'The Argument Sketch' which was brilliant. This thread on 'fi' is as fi as fi can be, either a suffix or abbreviation. I have only experienced light grinning, sorry the joke is more a fi-asco. (Sometimes it's great to express sarcasm.)

Is this the right room for an argument?

I told you once...

No you didn't.
