Hello

I recently acquired a pair of matched EL34 and 6V6 tubes... I have no OPT for these as i was thinking i could make a guitar amp from them. But oh, id rather use them as headamps...

Ive done a prior search on google but i didnt get many sensible layout/schematic.

anyone here who has tube expertise/experience who can help me?

is it possible to modify an existing circuit to adopt EL34/6V6 as driver tubes?

thanks!

A couple people have posted that they have used an EL34 in cathode follower mode with good success. Perhaps some experimentation with a 6V6 would show similarly-good results?

A direct coupled triode connected 6v6 running into a cathode follower triode connected   EL34 might  make a pretty good OTL amp.  Use a B+ of about 400V. Run the 6V6  low and fat at 175V. Run the EL34 at 200V with a 20V or so bias. Use some motor run PIO  caps as outputs. Might sound pretty good with some Sennheisers. I'm a big fan of using power tubes as voltage amps and drivers. Your  6V6 will sound way better than a 12AU7 or any of the other usual suspects  as a low gain voltage amp.

haha mr frank, running all four of them in a headamp might require a ventilated room and a 5-meter headphone cable.

ill go OT for a while, are all motor caps PIO? ive seen many of those in a local hardware store at about 45-55uf?
