I'd like to upgrade these cards in some way that's fairly simple and inexpensive. I realize these are old cards, I realize I could get "better" cards for cheap. But I already have these cards, they sounds reasonably decent as is, but I'd just like to use these cards as projects. Any ideas on capacitors or DACs or whatever? If some photos of my cards and their components are needed, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

I agree. The SB-Live! is a total loss (no amount of modding will make it sound good), and the AudioPCI was a budget card in its day so its not really worth saving. Even if you did go through with modding it would probably cost you the same amount in parts as a Chaintech AV-710 costs, which would blow away both of those cards, modded or not.
