Has anyone used/heard the Onkyo CP802?

I did a search here and found nothing.. There was an article in my local newspaper recently that I clipped out. They said that this changer is good for critical listeners (not not for fanatical audiophiles)..

It's a 6-disc changer that supports SACD and DVD-A, with a MSRP of $499.

I just bought a Sony SCD-CE595, and just realized that I only have 1 set of 6-channel inputs on my receiver, so a universal player is starting to look more appealing.

There's a very positive review of the Onkyo CP802 in the current issue of Home Theater magazine. If I have the money, this Onkyp would be on my short list to audition.

Fanatical audiophiles will not consider anything from Onkyo.

BTW, there's a single disk player CP502, which seems to be completely indentical to 802 in all other respects. Doesn't know how it sounds, though. I've started a thread on this player (and Yamaha S1500), but no one answered.

Can you link me to some info on this player? I can't find anything about it on google. How much is it?

I listened to the S1500 last night along with the Denon 2200 -- both seem to be heavily discounted here in Canada. I thought the Denon was superior with Redbookk playback (thought not by much) but the case was not so clear-cut with SACD, where I found the Yamaha to be more detailed and open-sounding. I can't comment on the video performance but I'm not sure the Denon justifies its 300 CAD premium. I plan to listen to some of the lower-cost units but I think the Yamaha -- a brand I've never liked since I owned a distinctly terrible 1st-generation CDP -- is a good prospect, especially at 500 CAD. There's an odd but fairly comprehensive review of the s1500 online -- I'll try and dig it up for linking but you'll find it in a google search.

Here's a link to Onkyo site: http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...&class=DVD&p=i, and here's the link to user manual: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/...2_manual_e.pdf. BTW, Crutchfield and J&R both says to have it in stock.

You mean this: http://www.prillaman.net/dvd-s1500_review.html? Interesting review, but it says almost nothing about sound.

That's the one. The s1500 is going for 499 CAD at Advance Electronics and the Denon 2200 for 748. At last, the rising dollar kicks in...

I read somewhere that this Yamaha SD-1500 was a rebagged Phillips. Not sure about the model.

I received a call this week from the Yamaha Distributor in PR and he told me they arrived, after a 2 month delay. I will listen to it in a few weeks after some in-store break-in.

Jose.

There was a lot of rumours that s1500 is actually Philips 963 with DVD-Audio support added, but it's not true - they use different DACs.
