due to an ear infection that has moved from only being in my left ear to being in both, my head is ringing like the liberty bell (despite the best efforts of a pair of thoroughly disinterested general practitioners). it's so bad that i'm sober despite the best efforts of nearly an entire bottle of jameson gold. a doctor that i know online (on another forum) has suggested that i see a neurotologist or otoneurologist, which are apparently types of E/N/T doctors. my question is simply if anyone has ever been to one of the aforementioned doctors, and what can i expect, if you have?

My law partner had been to one to implant a titanium replacement for one of the small bones in the ear. I'm no expert but your problem sounds like something an ENT could handle. Whoever you decide to see, don't wait.

i can't do anything until wednesday, which is when i have my next doctor appointment. it really sucks to not be able to listen to music (going on week three now), so i really hope it's something easily handled.

i got an oral antibiotic and decongestents (which have been worthless). the pain has been on and off, the ringing has been a much larger concern for me.

FYI.......it is neurologist and otolaryngologist, respectively. I work with these docs from time to time and you can expect a thorough ear exam, comprehensive medical history, and they will most likely check your throat, nose, glands, and paranasal sinuses, all of which can refer pain to the ears if there is any pathology involving the aforementioned. One bit of advice: If your drinking Jameson (fine whiskey by the way), don't mix it with acetaminophen! Very, very bad for the liver (etoh + Tylenol = acute liver failure if one is not careful.....even moderate use.) Hope all goes well with you.

neurotologist and otoneurologist were the words used by the doc, who is a neurologist, so i trust his wording. thanks for the explanation of what i can expect, though, and i never take pain medication when i'm drinking (a dead liver is the last thing i need).

Just remember that Death is the final outcome to Healthy Living.

Common over to the house. I have a good cordless drill, any size bit. We can open up and drain them suckers and wash em out with Clorox.

All kiding aside, I have had an ear infection and bronchial athma infection now since the middle of October. I have bad ears normally, with loud ringing, for many years now. I spent too many years as a "Rock Superstar" at the local High School gymnassiums, when I was much younger and louder. I was a "Legond in my own mind", I tell you. But anyway it is much louder with the infection as you have mentioned. What, infectiously, is going on around here anyway? I see the Doc again on the 20th. Keep me posted.

Current medicine = Canadian Club and Ginger Ale.

i'll hopefully get to see a specialist within the next week, and i'll let you know what the prognosis is, mikey. maybe i'll be recommended something that hasn't been suggested to you and it can help both of us.

Ooops.....Just goes to show you can learn something new everyday! I've been in health care for 20 years and never heard an ENT physician referred to in that way before. We just say "call the ENT guy"

Clarithromyci 500mg don't cut it at all after two gorounds of it. Must be something sitting on us in the "Ohio Valley" keeping us down right now.
