Has anyone downgraded from HD595 to HD555?

I have owned the 595 3-4 different times over the years. I think I was the first member to get the new 595 from headroom way back. I really like it but had to move on to many many different headphones on my quest.

Since then I listen to my TV Tivo movies allot more than music anymore. I stay up late at night and use headphones not to bother my neighbors plus like the effect I get with headphones and get more involved in the movie with them.

I have also bought the 555 several times over the years and for my TV Movies I really like the 555 over the 595. First I only paid 80.00 used for a mint pair. Great price. I also think the 555 has better bass and sound stage over the 595 on my movies listening. I could be wrong about this but the 80.00 price is a steal for the sound I get on the 555 and great comfort to boot. Many a night I stay up all night watching and listening for hours with my 555. I have not found a better movie headphone at this 80.00 price to beat the 555 for my use.

Well, I did it. I ordered the HD555 and I am sending back the HD595. I will let everyone know what I think. I hope I didn't make the wrong decision. Maybe with the left over money, I will also buy the new Grado street style headphone. WHEN THEY HELL ARE THEY COMING!!!???

o rly? i've been contemplating whether to sell my 555's and get 595's instead. i'm thinking the difference is probably not worth it, but i cant believe you actually prefer the 555 over the 595! how do you like the 555 vs the 595 for music listening?

HI: I think the 595 are better for music listening with clearer sound. Better extension in the highs. I paid 160.00 new for them on line I think but they are not twice as good as the 555. Both the 555-595 are very nice headphones and have a much better forward sound over my old 580 that was laid back by lots.

I still enjoy my music very much with the 555 though. I would think I have a mid end system but if one had a high end system the 595 would sound better by far. I bought a new 555 on line for 111.00 shipped a while ago. Still a great price. The thing I really like about the 555 is that they are a pleasure to listen to for hours on end with a very good sound stage. Great bass and softer highs. The 555 do not fatigue me in any way for hours of great fun and listening. And this pair I bought used for 80.00 in A1 shape.

Oh out of the box new I didn't like the clamping force that they had and put my latest pair over a box about the size of my head for about 4 days to stretch them out and it worked great and made the 555 much more comfortable for me.

thanks a lot for your reply. i have a fairly mid to low end system as well, just an audigy2 with a pa2v2, and i dont plan on upgrading either in the forseeable future.

thanks to you and some others on this thread, i think i feel a lot better about my decision to save some money and stay with the 555. (imagine that, head-fi saving people money

all the 5x5 models weak in comparison to the 580/600/650 range, that's almost true ! but 580/600/650 wouldn't sound as good

The 50ohm version should be slightly easier to drive. Their sonic signatures should be exactly the same though

Theoretically yes. I own a 50ohm model and it is adequately driven by my Sony NWHD5 walkmen.

As leng jai said, however, they are SLIGHTLY easier to drive, and I'm talking one or two volume notches. I own the 120 ohm version of the HD555 and it's as easy to drive as my KSC-35s.
