I was looking for something to compensate for my crappy TV speakers, I have about $150 to spend, I know not a lot but I am a college student and I am currently saving up for a pair of Alpha Dog's by Mr.Speaker headphones. So I searched and came across some Harman Kardon speakers in my price range, holy smokes! I really love the sound reproduction I get from my CL's and my dads receiver is HK tied to a 7.1 surround sound also by HK. Anyway, I really like HK and I don't see this being different. Then I got to thinking, are these going to be efficient and produce enough sound to fill my front room during movie night? I mean, they will be mostly used for my computer to which has a high end sound card already. Will these get a notable improvement with my sound card? Should I buy an Amp for them, which kind. . something kinda affordable if I should.

Let me know what you guys think, I know they're not that special 7.1 by Klipsch or Pioneer but it's what I can afford. Also, if you guys know of other speakers that are really good quality too, meant for desktops or would work with my sound card without some special receiver, let me know! I am all ears, I really am interested. Thanks guys!

They are tiny driver speakers. Larger drivers can more easily produce volume.

For powered speakers, consider these: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=115&cp_id=11504&cs_id=1150401&p_id=605500&seq=1&format=2

Or you could go passive. Usually pretty easy to pick up a receiver on Craiglist for $75. Then Newegg has fairly frequently put these Pioneer BS21s on sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117405
