Hmm. If it's just for use with a PC, USB DAC and headphones, is a hardware EQ worth it?

If you're using some semi-current version of Windows, you may want to give EqualizerAPO a shot first. That gives you a system-wide fully parametric EQ.

And it seems to be free, also. As much as I love new gear, this may be my answer - I'll try it out and report back. Thanks for the advice.
