I recently bought a Circuit Specialists soldering station. One of the reasons I bought it was that several people said it can use tips meant for the Hakko 936 station.

I bought a Hakko tip, 900M-T-B. This is meant to be used with the standard 936 w/ medium iron. However, it just doesn't fit on the CS iron. Its opening is too small for the ceramic element to fit into. In fact, I tried to gently work it in, and broke the element, and had to put in a replacement.

How is everyone else using these? Do you have to lube up the heating element or something? I'd pretty much have to drill a larger hole into this tip to make it work.

I have the same question. I ended up buying more tips from CSI.

Yes, I may have to buy a few tips from CS (and pay $12 shipping, outrageous!).

It's confusing because people don't just say the 936 tips can work with the CSI stations--they say things like "perfect match" and "works beautifully."

Dunn know why but had the same prob with a genuine Hakko iron. Ended up drilling and enlarging the tip with a 11/64 drill bit. Worked, time will tell how long it lasts.

Is it better than the Hakko 936 itself as it seems to be considerably more expensive than the Hakko.

Xytronic 136 is $129
Hakko 936 is $75
CSI-2A is $44

I was looking for a cheap soldiering station for light work, just something better than my Weller 25w Pencil.

Are you sure you got tips for the correct hakko iron?
Hakko sells 3 different sized tips(small, medium, large) for 3 different sized irons(900, 907, and 908).
All irons are compatible with the soldering station, but not all tips are suitable for each iron.

Any idea which of those are compatible with the CS Irons?
