Hey guys.. i've been reading a lot of reviews.. and from what i've read... the Sennheiser HD280 pro's aren't that great at all..

could anyone give me their opinion on this matter?

Depends on comparisons. Open clearly outperforms closed in this price bracket, and doubling the budget gets some very nice closed cans (HFI-780, A900, etc.). Does the 280 overall outperform most other sub $100 closed cans? Yes. There are a few other contenders though.

I'd recommend them, so long as isolation is a factor. They 're my first real cans, and for movies, music on the bus/train and generally not disturbing others it's hard to do better for the price.

They're a bit bass lean though so you'll have to boost that a bit, but they have surprising bass detail once you do.

Now I've got an overwhelming urge to upgrade, though. Must... resist...
