Consciousness itself is not measurable so why trust a device measurement more than the conscious experience itself? (if indeed in this case there even is a measurement to begin with)

Have you changed your hard drive cables, though? Many people forget that the audio also passes through the hard drive cable, which can be of inferior quality and damage the details and sound stage. Any SATA or IDE cable that costs less than $200 is probably not doing it's job well for audio applications. You may get all the bits through for regular data applications, but you need really thick cables with gold plating to preserve sound stages etc.



And don't forget the UTP cable as well if you're loading your MP3 files over the network. See here:
