The only difference i feel on 225s compared with 125s, 80s is that they are less emphasized on highs. I think I can understand why people call 225s rock cans. (Okay... except those just do because seeing Headroom or other people called it.) Some metal, rock or classic rock are just too congested and 80s, 125s just sounds sometimes too harsh and fatigue to listen to with those. If you call 225 more musical, i'll bet that this is the reason: your music preference. The first real jump on Grado lineup from 80s is 325s (or MS2), imo. Whether you like 325s or not, that is different story.
If i am a poor student listening to Metallica however, I'd just buy SR60 and wait until i can afford anything i want when i got a decent job. Or just go out, work part-time and save up for 225s.
