has anyone compared some sr60s to sr80s on the ipod or any portable player? Is the sr80 really harder to drive? or is the sr80 just more capable of scaling when used with an amp? Its been too long since Ive had my sr80s but I do remember liking them a lot. So anyone that can do sr60 vs 80 or 60i vs 80i comparison pls chime in.

SR80s are the most forgiving phones in my possession. You can run them out of an ancient chinese knockoff walkman and they'd make it sound good. I use mine exclusively from an iPod, and even amped well they don't get much better.

Stick with the 60s (best bang for your buck) and save some cash to get a decent portable amp.

I guess the description of the sr80 at headroom is exaggerated then. I never understood why the sr60s were supposedly so much easier to drive than sr80s when I remember my sr80s to kick booty out of my tcd-d7 portable DAT player back in the 90s

I have some old 60s. I just want a different variation of the grado sound with slightly more bass and less grainy mids.

the only thing holding me back from getting 225s is that i'm afraid they might sound too dark using comfies. Just for reference, I dont even like the sound of the rs1s when used with bowls.

Then the sennheiser hd414 pads are for you. Comparable comfort as the comfies but they don't darken the sound.

Also modding your comfies with a small hole in the middle may help you.

what I basically was getting at was that I like the comfy sound more than the bowls but since I hear that the 225s are the darkest grado, they might not be the one for me since I basically want a grado with great synergy with comfy pads. Question: Are 225s as bright as ms2is? If they are then they are a good candidate since I loved the ms2is with comfy pads.

About the modded comfies, I dont really like it much. It brightens the lower treble too much
