I've had my sr-60s for about 4 years now and a few months ago, I noticed the left channel cutting in and out. It was pretty irregular at first, so I just figured I'd deal. But then it kept getting worse and worse. Finally I could tell just by looking through the grills that the wires inside were messed up.
So today I finally decided that it was time to open them up. Anyway, the hair dryer method worked pretty well for me. After removing the cover I noticed that the wires inside had loosened up and were shorting. Anyway, a little time with some wire cutters, a soldering iron, and some hot glue, they're back as good as new.
I probably wouldn't have even tried opening them up if I didn't read this board, so thanks to all the people who have posted about working on grados before me.
