Here you go, the pic doesn't show the full amount of the damage, it looks like there are small tears, however you cant see the wire

Hard to see clearly in that photo, however it does look similar to my SR225s. On mine it looks like some type of crimp process done during manufacturer because it is the exact mark on both cables. Note it appears to only affect the plastic casing of the cable not the interior wires.

Yep that is pretty normal.
The Y-splitter appears to be in good condition but there where the cables leave the Y-splitter it is normal that there is some wear. I am afraid there is nothing you can do other than making sure it doesn't twist.

nigh on impossible, in my opinion. both my grado's have twists at the y connector and from both cups - full of kinks there.

i suppose so long as the cable doesn't tear, then it should be ok.

Yeah, its alittle worse than the RS1s i bought second hand a couple of months ago, i've never seen brand new grados but i imagined they'd be perfect because the guy sold "AS NEW" These look like they could fall apart any second

I think it is more of a "feature" of the way the cable is made. Mine have had that kink in them from day one, it has never appeared to change either since I have had them for 2 years wearing them every day and even packing them in my luggage.

I bought a pair of Alessandro MS-1s (new) and their Y connector/cables looked exactly the same. Initially I was a little worries too but it seems it is purely optical.

Enjoy the sound.

Same here. No tear but all kinked up like yours appear in the photo.

Mine are crimped at the y-connector too of course. But I'm very careful to try and keep the phones from twisting fully and staying that way. Mine definitely do not have the extra twist seen in the right-hand wire in the picture though.

Agreed, except I have had mine for just one year. I wrap the cable up around my phones and stuff em in my backpack. They've been spun and twisted as much as you could imagine, but they still look the same. That little kink/joint thing must be pretty flexible, because I've sworn mine was going to tear like 6 months ago.
