Ok, I finally gotten a budget amp, the PA2V2, which is pretty decent for the price i guess and Gary was amazing so it was worth it. But with my current headphones, there isn't much of a difference, at least to me LOL. So I started browsing around and heard alot of great things about Grado especially the SR60s. So I've decided these are probably going to be my next pair of headphones, but i find all these reviews on the internet that say that the SR80 and SR125 are pretty great and even better than the SR60s.

So basically my question is, is there a noticable difference between the three "budget" Grados, enough that I should actually save up more money for the SR80 or the SR125s?

THANKS!

When I looked at the above three, I found the SR125s to be just a tad bit above the rest but not enough so for the money(however little). The SR225s seem to be the where the sweet spot is in the Grado line(to me at least). And I regret not just going straight to those instead of taking these incremental steps over lower end cans. But for the money, I'd say go for the 80s(until you get your next bout of upgraditis). TTVJ has them and if you register with them, i think you get like a 10 dollar off coupon.

The SR-60 is awesome with a PAV2V2. The SR-80 comes with the bowls, which will give you better sound quality. But some complain about the bowls confort. You may buy a SR-60 if you budget is limited and later upgrade the confy SR-60 stock pads to bowls (bowls cost $15 at TTVJ).
If you have a wider budget, go for the SR-225 ...

The only thing I can think of that may help; since I've never heard any of them,

is to point out the differences that Grado so willingly lists in their website.

Go to the SR-80 and ya get a four wire cable instead of a three wire unit. Go to the SR-125 and ya get better stuff in the driver windings.

The price difference between the 60s and 80s is only around 25 dollars. I say go for the 80s. The bowls are okay (depends on your ears), and if you cant deal you can get flats or HD414 pads for less than 15 dollars.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

edit: Might want to look into the Alessandro MS1s though.

I tried the whole modern Grado line, and I loved the SR-80 out of the rest.

So of course, I recently got an SR-80!

Look like you will have to decide if you want the SR125 or 225. Both are good rockin' headphones, the SR225 provides slammin' bass and bright highs that make it easily the funnest headphone under $200. The SR125 is much like the 225, only not quite as impactful and smooth, maybe slightly harsher than enjoyable, but not by far. It's your wallet's decision.

exactly. SR-80 and SR-125 are the person children of the Grado line for a reason :p

If you want cheap, SR-60 sound great. If you want to save your self some time, money and upgraditus, just wait and get the SR-225's. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I would shoot for the Alessandro MS-1 or a good pair of used SR-225s... best value for the money. Bay Bloor Radio sold the SR-60 for about $100 about 2 weeks ago, but I don't know if they're still on sale.

Go for grado sr60 and buy hd414 pads for usd 6. You will get the best value phone with one of the best value amp (pa2v2).

off course, as usual, in a few months, you will be tempted to upgrade your phones and your amp.

I say get the grado SR-60 and mod them if you feel the need.

But goto Bay Bloor Radio and you can test them all.

But beware, they have a really good source/amp/interconnects.

And yours wont sound anything like that, I might even suggest asking them to let you use your own portable source/amp.

Wow, i didn't know there was even a place that i could get Grados near my area. That's nice, now i don't even have to get them on eBay. But $99.95 CAD seems a bit expensive, when i can get them for around $85 CAD shipped on eBay.

So basically, the general consensus is that I should go for the SR60s or SR80s and if i really want to upgrade the SR225? The SR125 are just not worth it? So between the SR60s and SR80s which one is better and matches my amp and Cowon A2 best?

The SR225 is really out of my budget right now, I only have around $100 CAD to spend.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I'm really new at this!

Even if your not going to buy from BBR, I'd still suggest going in there and testing out the headphones, they have a bunch of different models, you may find you like the sound of something else better. Personally I found I liked the Grado sound best, followed by the AKG 701's.
