I bought used Grado SR225 a few years ago at eBay. I thought it was a pretty good deal. Yesterday I happened to see the specs of all Grado models, and found that the SR225 comes with a 1/4" connector. Mine is with a 1/8" mini connector. Only SR60 and SR80 come with a 1/8" plug. Out of curiosity, I emailed Grado Labs to ask if the SR225's were ever manufactured with a 1/8" connector. A reply said they were never!

My headphones (and their box) are clearly labelled "SR225." How is this possible? Is this a fraud?

even with pics it may be useless... do you see the difference between a sr225 and a sr60 with sr225 tags on them

does this sr225 have the thick black cable with crappy Y-split? or does it seem customized.

maybe someone upgraded to sr225 and changed the tags... that accounts for the box saying 225 too.

There's no way to tell unfortunately. All the recent SR drivers externally appear the same. You can check the grille to see if it's the SR60 or 225 grille but thats about it.

Ouch. It's very simple to replace the cups with those of the SR225. When new Grado cups are glued. Try taking them off by just using your hands. If it's possible to get them off rather easily there is a chance someone has taken them off before. Also check the solder joints. Maybe it's messy or anything.

Compare the grills to the images on the website (gradolabs.com)
or try finding a store nearby and compare them to real sr60/sr225's.

225s should have metal grilles. If yours do, then chances are they were recabled/reterminated.

Hard to say, because:
1. You don't mention which connector you have on yours (only a lot of talk about different connectors).
2. You did not post a picture.
3. ...

I assume his pair has a 1/8th.

SR225 has silver grills, black drivers (which can be seen through the mesh), and a 1/4th termination.

SR60 has black grills, silver drivers (iirc), and a 1/8th termination.

It is very possible that someone rebuttoned the cups and made a swap on you.

Yeah, I think this is it. Mine has a plastic rear grille with circular vents, not a metal mesh grille. What a disappointment!
