Well, maybe.....
As an MS2 owner, I auditioned both the SR-60 and SR-125 at a local hi-fi shop today, and WOW, I was really surprised by the SR-125, especially considering they are the lowest rated Grado at Headroom.
To me they had solid bass thump, crisp highs, and a very clear presentation. Maybe I'm just a fan of a very bright presentation at didn't really realize it. Without having my MS2's to do a side by side comparison, I think the SR-125 compared really favorably, especially considering the big price difference. I found the highs on the 125's to perhaps be more engaging that what I have been listening to on the MS2's.....really edgy and crisp.
The SR-60 really didn't do all that much for me....sound murky, bass was good, but intrument seperation and treble detail wasn't on the same level as the 125's or MS2's. Maybe the comfy pads had a lot to do with this? In any case, I would say the extra money for the 125's is definitely justified over the SR-60's.
I will definitely need to bring my MS2 back to this shop and do a side by side comparison with the SR-125 for further analysis. Also, the shop is supposed to get an RS-1 and SR-325i in for auditioning purposes in a couple of weeks, so I have that to look forward to.
Just thought I'd share....
