So I just got a pair of Grado RS2is!! My first pair of high end headphones, and I am in love!
I am between two options here: the first being getting either an HRT Microstreamer or an Audioquest Dragonfly as an amp/DAC combo or my second option being getting a dedicated DAC such as a Schiit Modi and then a Project Starlight hybrid tube amp. What can I expect to hear differently between those two options? Will there be a dramatic difference in quality between the amp/DAC combo or keeping the DAC and amplifier separated?
My other question is this: say I get the Microstreamer or Dragonfly and then decide to get the Project Starlight later - will there be any sonic degradation from connecting the 3.5mm output of the DAC to the RCA inputs of the amplifier? Would I be better off getting a dedicated DAC with RCA outputs?
Thanks!
