Has anyone given this combination a go? I'm thinking RS-1 plugged directly into the Duet:

MBP -> Duet -> RS-1

Is their any synergy here, or should I be looking at the Duet only as a source?

The synergy sounds perfect to me. I use it all the time. I only add my RSA SR-71 amp to the chain when using my HD650s. I should add that I listen to Apple lossless files.

I have no experience with the duet as an amp, but I think that it sounded pretty good as a source. If nothing else, you can just upgrade if you ever feel the need. Adding an amp into the chain would be no problem at all.
