Might depend who you ask.
Some prefer the PS-1, while others prefer the HP1000, GS1000 or RS1.

To me, GS1000 and PS-1 are best Grado ever made

And I do believe they are like brothers, not twins, but definitely brothers.

I want to see this thing go for $10K.

Same here! Would that be the most expensive headphone ever sold? (well aside from those gold plated ones that were around a little while ago).

The auction proves there is a market for a Real High End Grado Headphone.

Not necessarily $3,000 worth but I could easily pay $1500-$1900 for the PS-1.

At $1400 it was a bargain- On the Head-Fi weighted financial scale.

So very true. Many, particularly college kids, parents of young kids and folks living in apartments/condos really enjoy headphones because they get far more use out of them than they would out of speakers. Given this, spending some decent money on high-end headphones is considered a bargain over time compared with the cost of speakers and amps and the associated limited use one would get from that kit.

The PS-1's are a remarkable headphone and in my opinion, better than the HP-1000s (hence why I sold those over the PS-1's).

totally agree with above posts.

Definitely there is a large, and growing, market for high/ultra-high end headphones:

(1) The emerging Asian economy will bring millions of new consumers to the audio market, but the housing situation there favors Headphones over speaker as over 99% of residential are condos.
(2) The new wave of PC-HiFi, flamed by iPod and the like, opened a huge market for headphones.

I am anxiously waiting for the new Sennheiser Flagship, HD700 or HD800. Will be interesting.
