i think i still have one speeding ticket on my record, but it should be gone after this six months (i think/hope). without the ticket i would have been about $1600/yr at my old place, so hopefully it will be even less at my current residence.

i am still under my parents insurance, as are my two younger brothers, for a total of four cars. but i went through the progressive online thing and got even higher quotes if i were to go out on my own policy.

Yeah, Jug handles and circles, Uhhhggg!

I have a feeling that I know where all the tax money is going, but I don't want to 'kick the political hornets nest', so I will bite my tongue.

Yikes!
but to complete the picture your have sketched out, there also needs to be an income comparison so that we can see if the prices are proportional.

Do you have anything like our 'minimum wage' of $5.15/hour that can be used for an easy comparison?

Certainly:

Average salary in Norway for full time employee(from gov. statistical 2005):
30100 NOK or 4703,- USD per month before taxes or anything.
There are no constitutional minimum wage in Norway.

Should perhaps be mentioned that Norway is the second richest country in the world by GDP: http://www.aneki.com/richest.html
and that the nation got no foreign (external) debts (so why the F do they tax us to death!). Income tax typically is from 30% to 50%.

And yep a beer can cost as much as USD 10,- easy!
And the big irony on gas prices is that while norway is 7. largest oil producer and 3. largest oil exporter...we got SUPER high gasoline prices. They just dont want us to drive cars!
