one word; Woah!
for those who are unaware of this mod, it was invented by Van Alstine in 1982 and involves gluing a weighted and dampened brass rod onto the front of your cart.
here is a pic from a pro modder
to say that i am impressed would be an understatement. the Grado blue that i had previously discarded because of the smeared highs has just re-entered my system and is now resolving more midrange detail than my Ortofon 2m Blue.
for the £2 worth of brass and the 15 mins it took to make, its probably the best tweak i have ever done to my turntable.

for tinkerers, this is an absolute must! try on your own cart (with tack first, you may not be as enamored with the results as i am).
