Hello,

I have been wanting to buy a high end headphone for a while now, and after a long time of searching and reading i found that the sennheiser hd 800 and the grado gs1000e are the best. i cannot decide which one should i get. I will really appreciate your help.

I mainly listen to Hip Hop

sometimes rock and classical.

Thank you,

I happen to have both the HD800 and GS1000i, but if you are sensitive to high frequency, then neither would be ideal.....though in the case of the GS1000i (not sure about the GS1000e), it can be quite sparkly. Soundstage is better on the HD800, but the GS1000i is pretty detailed and transparent but doesn't have the soundstage of the HD800. I dunno about others, but vocals on the GS1000i is smoother than on the HD800, not sure if it's my hearing, or better synergy with my Geek Pulse Standard.....or both. This is just my opinion though, and bear in mind I'm past 50, so my hearing ain't too hot.

I was also thinking that both of these headphones would appeal to someone that liked sparkle & treble. The HD800 is considered to have one of the widest (if not *the* widest) soundstage you can buy. The Grado is more known for putting you on stage with the music.

At this level, you really need to try them.

If you are a hip hop fan, you are likely looking at the wrong headphones.  Planars from HiFiMan (more neutral but with great bass & treble extension) and Audeze (especially the LCD-2 & 3, the prince and king of darkness) are a better matches.

Thank you,

If you like classical it is hard to beat the HD 800 or the GS 1000. i would comment and say that the HD 800 will have a wider sound stage however the GS1000 will be deeper with better texture.
