Hello all! Long time lurker who's recently gotten more into the hobby.

I had a pair of GS1000e's repaired at Grado due to a bad driver going bust. I raised the volume about a day later to around 30/60 on my portable DAC and I started hearing the hissing sound again from the driver.

I called Grado and was told that if I don't burn in the headphones, the drivers it would cause them to go bust. Mind you, they mentioned they will do the second repair for free, but I was told all this as if I was doing a grave faux-pas by not burning them in first. Made it seem like I was somehow partially at fault for not doing doing the expected burn-in process right away. This all sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me.

Maybe someone with more knowledge could explain this to me? I thought burn-in was likened to decanting a good wine or something; highly recommended but not required.

In any case, pleasure to meet everyone here!!

Grado BS to excuse their lack of quality control, even in the repair ... maybe that's a bit too harsh. Stuff happens, but they shouldn't have tried to make excuses with a story like that.
