I have had a pair of UE superfi 5 for the last 2-3 years. Recently the left side went out d/t a faulty cord. Spoke to UE they will not replace, but have given me a 50% off anything code. I was looking at the UE 700. My other thought was to go in a different direction and get an Over the ear phone. Specifically looking at the Grado 225i. Wondering if anyone thought there was a big difference in the two. I listen to mainly jam bands, jazz, blues, folk and bluegrass.
I could get the UE700 for about $75 and the Grado for $200. Not worried about portability will mainly be listening in house/bed while lurking on the internet. I will be playing out of an ipad/iphone and am currently looking into streaming through an Airport express. May add in a DAC at some point.
As you can see I am just getting in to this hobby. Concerned about the UE even though I may be getting for a good price if they are going to go out in 1-2 years I would be better off going with the Grado.
Any thoughts are much appreciated
