got my cd-5000 marantz cdp the other day, and couldn't be happier. well, i could, but it would have cost a lot more, and this was about as much cdp as i could afford.
sounds pretty good through my 600s on the headphone out - i wouldn't know about the amp, as my supreme is taking forever to get here.
a few interesting notes - i listened to a yamaha cdx596 (i think) that sounded really nice. probably as good or better than the cd-5000, for the same price, but i had my heart set on the marantz.
also, the nad 522 sounded pretty sweet. perhaps a little too bright, but maybe not. i didn't get to listen to that one alongside the others, so take that with a grain of salt.
in any case, the marantz and that yamaha are certainly worth a look for those in the market in this price range.
