Well, I really like the M50s that I own. However, I would like more detailed sound and maybe something with a bit more comfort.
I would like to have somewhat of the same build quality, better sound, less bass, and a non-coiled and shorter cable. More portability 32ohms, or less.
Max budget of 300$~

Hello!

First off, just to let you know, impedance does not simply tell if a particular headphone requires an amp, there are a lot of factors to consider!

For complete upgrade from the ATH-M50, I personally find the UE6000 to be the perfect one or if you can find a pair of Momentum at your price range, that would be great!

Hope it helps!

I like to think the 40-Ohm ATH-A900Xs are a full step (or two) above the ATH-M50s.

Oh thanks for the information!
How are the vmoda m100s? Also, do the DT 880s leak a lot (comparing to the m50)?

The Dt880 are referred to "semi-open" headphones, but about 90% of the outside audio will leak in just like an "open" headphone.
I would say they all let in about 90% of the audio that a "open" headphone would let in, from the outside.
Also It might take a headphone amplifier to bring out the best in the (32-Ohm) DT880's.

Wow. I thought A900Xs were expensive. Never thought they'd be this cheap. I'll add those to my list

Okay. I have the fiio e6, pretty cheap.
What about the m100s? Seems a lot like the m50s. Also how much bass does the k551 really lack?
If it helps, I listen to pop, classical, rock, dubstep, j-pop, anime OSTs, and some vocaloids.
To add to the list, Sony MDR 1r?

I know very little about the Vmoda M100s and Sony MDR-1R and K551, hopefully someone else knows.

The Sony MDR-1R have rolled off bass although pretty well controlled. AKG K551 are more neutral than overpowered/powerful. If you get good seal, the bass extends deep down! Very well controlled as well

Hope it helps!

Alright, so basically I'm looking at the K551 or the M100s at the moment.
Pretty tough. They both seem very good.

Get the M-100, and trust me, it's great for Vocaloid (feat. Miku Hatsune).

Hurray for Miku! What about rock, j-pop and classical?

Same story, I have been using it with my AK120 for some 24/192 and 24/88 FLAC (Green Day, Daft Punk) from HDtracks, and some 16/44 CD accurate rip in FLAC with Lindsey Stirling and The Piano Guys 2 (get their CDs, you won't regart it.)  Plus Angela Aki, AKB48, and too many others to list.

Guess it's the v-modas now. I'll get custom anime related metal ear plates. Probably FMA logo or something.
Also, what's an IEM?
