Good Ripper/Encoder

EZ CDDA as in Adaptec's evil creation? Well, yeah, it works fine, one-click operation, but I don't even think it offers a paranoia-esque mode, so ripping anything other than perfect CDs could result in pops and/or clicks.

If you get CDex, it'll take you a couple minutes (or less) to configure your ripping and encoding settings. Probably better ones out there, but this one does all the mp3 encoding you would possibly need. It only encodes in mp3, which kinda sucks... and that's why I use dbPowerAMP.

I think you can rip with dbPowerAMP as well, but I never tried.

Any program worth it's salt is going to have a bit of learning curve, CDex is pretty easy to use, read the docs, and all should be well.

I'm using EAC/Lame now......but to be honest, I had used MusicMatch for 2-3 years on countless cd's with nary a pop or click EVER. The resulting files (@ VBR 85+%) are very comparable to my EAC/Lame rips in sound quality.

To be honest, I can't hardly tell the difference with my equipment....but you people have rubbed off on me...so I use EAC.

For EVERYONE---

Use Chris myden's guide, PLEASE!!

EAC will take a little bit to get set up and used to, but you won't regret it....yes, your speeds will be slower, but your CD will be ripped as perfectyl as it can be (especially if you lookup your drives read offset).

We all have quality as our #1 priority, right? well, with ABX testing with my high-end pimeta and AKG K501 headphones, I've found no audible difference between mp3s made using myden's guide and the CD original. anything less, I can hear artifacts and distortion. The level set by chris myden is EXACTLY where it needs to be....

then, once you learn to rip like that, check out www.ubernet.org ...I'm an op there...it's a DC network of people that rip using myden's guide....8TB of music right now, all complete albums, all checked and verified with a script to be "perfect" quality, all friendly people... DEFINETLY worth it!

What does AQScript do anyway?

AQScript checks the checksums of the files, the ID3 tag fields, the log file generated by EAC to verify that:

-all tracks are present
-all tracks are complete
-all tracks are perfectly tagged
-all tracks were ripped with the correct settings
-all tracks were encoded with a hydrogenaudio.org approved version of LAME
-all tracks encoded at --aps or better

PLUS, AQScript is under active development and gaining new features all the time!

If you're looking for a nearly endless source of high quality mp3's (and are willing to rip to those standards and share yourself), check out ubernet.org!

....when you try to join you have to email chris myden with your log files so he can check 'em before giving you access....he'll be faster if you tell him that I (Zemo) sent you!

I tried several ripping methods and also would advise you to go with CDex. It works fast and perfectly even with bad/scratched CDs. The included encoders also work well. I usually choose the Lame Encoder over Ogg Vorbis as Ogg-Files still cannot be played by many portable MP3-Players.
