Hey all,

Looking to up my mobile experience (just got a nexus10), and was wondering if anyone can recommend good noice-cancelling earbuds to couple with a mobile amp.

I'm pretty sure (after research) that I'll be getting the E11, but if anyone has a different opinion I'd be happy to hear it.

Re the earbuds, so far been reading through the reviews, and the only one that seems up to the bill is the Audio-Technica ATH ANC23 QuietPoint, though they seem to have high microphonics.

Re my audio preferences, I'm not an audiophile, or a bass-freak.. got the Corsair SP-2500 + Xonar Essence ST on my PC and I'm perfectly happy with those, so make of that what you will.

Thanks

First off - just in case you haven't noticed, you can ask questions on here as well - http://www.head-fi.org/t/596233/buying-portable-or-in-ear-headphones-seeking-guidance-dont-start-a-new-thread-ask-for-advice-here

I'm a bit confused though - passive isolation or active noise cancellation (with the circuitry and all that jazz)? And by earbuds you do mean earbuds (i.e. the supra-aural buds and not IEMs - in-ear monitors)? As a lot of people mix the two terms up.

Nvm, googled the ATs. So you do want active noise cancelling IEMs, if I'm not mistaken. Though a key point that many skimp out on is how passive isolation through a deep seal, more often than not, can be much more ideal than ANC - I dare you to find a unit that could isolate as much as an Etymotic ER4P. Not to mention you'll get a better breadth of choices, especially if you're going to narrow them down in terms of sound.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm new here so knew I'd prob leave something out that seems obvious to more experienced folk..

Anyway, I was referring to In-Ear Headphones, like the ATH-ANC23 I've mentioned. Can't stand earbuds (they're too big for my canals and it really hurts), sorry for the confusion.
AFAIK I don't need IEMs, unless it usually translates to better sound quality as well (couldn't find any conclusive info on that).

Regarding the in-ear seal, you're right, most all reviews I've read about in-ears made it clear you have to experiment with the sizes to get a perfect seal, otherwise it wouldn't work properly.

The ER4Ps are wayyy outside my intended budget, though I'm assuming you've mentioned them just as making a point about the importance of isolation.

I actually don't mind if it's ANC (like the ATs) or passive with good isolation like you said, as long as it isolates well.. with that in mind, do you have a pair of in-ears to recommend (considering pairing with E11 on a nexus 10)? I've started sifting through the great advice thread you have, but it's very long..

I'm actually not sure of your budget nor your sound preferences, so can't really specify anything in particular.

That being said, budget? Sound preferences? Signatures, characteristics you take priority in when listening, etc.
