I was looking into the beats solo hd. Do they really sound THAT bad? I wanted headphones for under $200. I listen to classic rock, hard rock, alternative, and I love metal like Metallica. I'm goin to be wearing these a lot in public so I want something that looks good to, which is why I wanted the beats solo hd. They should look and sound good. Any suggestions?

If you want good looking phones, why would you want beats?  Your post makes no sense to me

I think that the Phiaton MS400 is a great looking set of cans and they sound (from the few minutes I listened) great with rock and metal. Don't get beats, waaaay to much bass for rock or metal.

have you heard the HD25's, they dont look terrible and will provide you with good sound quality and portability along with a good sound sig for rock and metal (IMO). They can be had for about 150 USD

Good for metal=

Sennheiser HD600
Beyerdynamic DT990

I listen to a fair amount of metal, and these cans do the recordings justice.

HFi780 is very good with metal.

Though two very different headphone. HD600 is balanced, DT990 has a V shaped signature.

Exactly, which is why I own both!

Both do metal very well, IMHO.

I can see how some might feel that.  There's truth to it based on each person's preferences.  For me, the 600s don't have the sizzle in the treble that the 990s have, which makes them seem a little laid back.  But, the 600's midrange is incredible.  It has incredible bite on electric guitars.

YMMV.

It may depend on what kind of metal you listen to, but I'm not a fan of the HD600 for any of the metal I like, it's too mellow.

OP wants portability and preferably under 200 dollars, neither of which describe the SR325's. Amazing rock/metal phones tho
