I am a noob, I have no idea what things like amps and canelphones are, If it matters, I listen to rock and rap, and they are going to be used with a Zalman Zen Touch.

If you like rock and rap and plan on using your phones exclusively at home, then the AKG K240S is a great choice and can be found for $99 online. They're too bulky to be portable though.

I'd also look at the Alessandro MS-1 for open solution and the Audio Technica ATH-A500 for a closed one. My feeling is that the MS-1 will be better for rock but the A500 will be better for rap. Both are about $100 new.

Do you want them to be portable?

For portable use, Etymotic ER-6.

If you don't mind that they're somewhat odd looking, the Alessandro MS-1s are one of the best $100 class cans there is. I love them.

Alessandro MS-1 has your name written all over it, as long as you don't mind that it's open.
