i want to buy my girlfriend some nice earbuds that will go well coming straight from the ipod with no amp. they need to be comfortable, and the highs shouldn't be too harsh .. her ears are pretty sensitive to treble. the buds that came with her ipod don't work anymore and she said she needed some new ones.. so i'm going to take her up on that

hey buddy,
Buds are a problem.
Ive been searchin for the perfect bud for some time now and just cant seem to find it. Apparently, bass and bud dont go well together...and, bright and bud go together like two peas in a pod.
Ive tried the upper senns (mx400/500) and they are so shrill to me that they are virtually unlistenable. I believe their are some new ones on the market (the mx450/550) and i have no idea how they are.
I do like the akg k14p but like the rest, it still lacks bass. Ive found the only solution for buds is to constantly be wearing the "foamies"-they add bass response.
Then theres the comfort issue-either they fit, or they dont.
The concensus for the top contenders seems to be the high level Audio technicas that can be purchased on Audiocubes.com and the Sony 888's? However, these guys are expensive.(someone please correct me regarding the specific model numbers).
I have to say-I really like the ipod buds. Yeah, I said it. Decent, non-bright highs, crisp mids and solid bass. The only problem: they are crap and break on me every 4-5 months.
the next option is IEMS which I hate; I dont like isolation-bugs me out when I cant hear anything else but the music.
So-if you have cash: AT's or Sonys.
If not: Ipod Buds or AKG's
let me know what you choose.

How about semi-canals? They're a pretty good choice, between the Pana RP-HJE50 and the Creative/Sharp ones. Sony ones are out of the question, due to very shrill highs.

well, she's no basshead by any means.. so bass isn't a huge problem. i wouldn't expect good bass from buds anyways.

i can't believe you like the ipod buds! personally, i hate the way they sound.. but hey, we each have our own opinion.
