picked up these two 10 CD box sets of Bach Cantatas (Suzuki - Bach Collegium Japan), a weekend special at arkivmusic. each set is $50. pretty good deal, as each CD is normally $18-20.

Thank you for the information. The BIS Limited Anniversary Edition of 142 Bach Cantatas (4 box-sets, 10 CD each) was released in August 2009. For a complete list of the cantatas included in the box-sets see:

arkiv also has editions 3-4. they are a little more but starting with vol 28, the discs are all SACD. have to order these as well.

edit: for the set, i read that all CDs will be standard, so no SACD. i knew it was too good of a deal. a bit disappointed, but still a great set.

I've been waiting for the best time to buy the CDs of this series (rather than downloading it from emusic), and this may be it. Or is it best to hold out to the end when the whole lot will eventually be packaged up - decisions, decisions!

Too hard to resist temptation when you see the boxes sitting there in Tower Records! So they are simply the CDs (no SACDs) in paper sleeves, with all the booklets from the CDs separate under the CDs. Very economical at a 70% discount, for some of the most profound and glorious music ever written, in performances that are among the best available. Thanks for the heads up.

i have now ordered all four sets. if you like bach and his cantatas, this is a stellar buy. great performances and excellent sound quality.

I wish I could get these now. They are indeed awesome and the sound quality is way up there as well.

And while we are talking about Suzuki, more people need to check out his St Matthew Passion, truly THE period St Matthew Passion to get, more so than the great but slightly overrated Herreweghe.
