Hi! I'm just starting out in good audio equipment so I need your advice. Budget is about $100 but lower would be better. I'll be using it on my laptop. I listen to all kinds of music except jazz and classical. Do dacs really improve music? Any suggestions?

A DAC/headphone amp can often improve sound over onboard audio. But of course it depends on the sound quality of your laptop and what kind of headphones you will use with it.

The Schiit Fulla and Fiio E10K are very good options for <$100.

FiiO E10K ($76) or Schiit Fulla ($79), both are USB-DAC-amps.

I can get the E10 for $83 without shipping and the E10K for $89 without shipping. Which one should I go for? I can get the schiit fulla for $122 so I can't buy that. Things are expensive in my country. I heard that the only difference was the chips in e10 and e10k so I don't know which one to buy. I found a 2nd hand audioquest dragonfly dac for $78. Is it better to buy a new one? Thanks in advance

The E10K is a bit of an improvement over the E10, so seems worth it to get it. And that sounds like a very good price if audio equipment is hard for you to get without a lot of markup :)

Is that the first generation Dragonfly, or the Dragonfly V1.2? You might ask here to see if anyone has compared it with the E10K: http://www.head-fi.org/t/726304/the-fiio-e10k-all-new-dac-and-amp-stages

As the E10K is only $6 more then the older E10, might as well get the E10K.

It's the first generation. I checked the thread about the E10k and I think it helped me make my decison. I'll be getting the E10K. Thanks for the help!
